A quiet neighborhood in Fort Wayne was disturbed by a shooting that took place inside a local residence. The Fort Wayne Police Department reported that on Wednesday, October 22, just before dusk settled in at 5:45 pm, a gunshot victim was discovered at a home located on 3500 S. Lafayette St., according to a public statement released by the city's official website.
The male victim, found with life-threatening injuries, was urgently transported to a nearby trauma hospital. Despite efforts to save him, the individual was pronounced dead at approximately 6:30 pm. FWPD's Officer Adam Hartman, serving as a Public Information Officer, announced the efforts of detectives to piece together the event through interviews and the quest, for any pertinent evidence which may include camera footage from the area.
There are ongoing appeals for public cooperation. "Anyone with information or video is asked to call the Fort Wayne Police Department at 260-427-1222, Crime Stoppers at 260-436-7867, or use the anonymous P3 Tips App," urged an official statement. Fort Wayne officials have reassured citizens that the shooting currently poses no threat to community safety, and traffic has been adjusted to accommodate the investigation with the 3500 block S. Lafayette St. reduced to a single lane until late evening approximately 10:30 pm.
Multiple units including the FWPD Homicide Team, Crime Scene, and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office are currently working together on this case.
