Fort Wayne authorities are investigating a death that occurred near an abandoned building on Broadway Street, an incident that has spurred inquiries from multiple law enforcement divisions. According to an official release from the City of Fort Wayne, yesterday, police responded to reports of individuals on the rooftop of the former Electric Works building, the location poised with the weight of industrial decay, only to discover an adult male with multiple injuries by the adjacent railroad tracks.
Arriving at the intersection of Martin St and Hendricks St, the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD), along with the Fort Wayne Fire Department, found the individual, his life tragically pronounced extinct amidst the iron and old crossties. The concerning discovery prompted not just a police response but the involvement of the local coroner, crime scene analysts, and the Air Support Unit. Walking through the area which will remain shut down for investigation, officers collected evidence, regarded by a silence only punctuated by the flashing of squad cars and the murmurs of onlookers attempting to unpuzzle the evening's events.
With the investigation in active motion, the FWPD is accumulating witness statements and examining camera footage in search of answers, as per a statement in the city's official release. The case has fallen under the jurisdiction of the FWPD Homicide Team, a unit acquainted all too intimately with the city's darker chapters, and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office. Equally, the public has been invited to participate in the examination of truth, with information carriers being encouraged to contact the Fort Wayne Police Department, Crime Stoppers, or to submit tips through the P3 Tips App, providing avenues for anonymous civic engagement.
