Greenwood Fire Department has taken to social media to proudly announce the progression of five of their B-Shift firefighters to the rank of First Class. As reported by the department's Facebook page, the ceremony was a significant milestone, recognizing the hard work and dedication of these firefighters who have successfully completed their first year and met all the requirements of the 2024-1 Recruit Academy Class. The new shields they were presented with are not just accessories but symbols of their newfound responsibilities and accomplishments.
The firefighters who received this honor were First Class Firefighter Tyler Frink, Ashlynn Goley, Justin Rector, Tyler Sipes, and Caleb Stevens. In a ritual that is both playful and time-honored, their fellow shift mates celebrated the occasion by proceeding to spray them with water. This act, emblematic of the camaraderie and the collective spirit that firefighting engenders, served to formally and somewhat wetly welcome the promoted members into their new roles.
Chief Washel emphasized the importance of this advancement within the fire service ranks, signaling a transition from probationary status to a full-fledged First Class Firefighter. The department's Facebook post relays a sense of pride in the achievements of these individuals, with the community also joining in through comments to offer their congratulations and support for the local heroes.
