This practical stint, as relayed by State Rep. Michelle Davis (R-Whiteland), isn't just a seat at the government's table but a hands-on dive into the legislative process itself. "Our interns leave with professional skills and experiences that can be applied to a variety of career paths," she claimed as per the Indiana House Republicans, looking to allure those with a penchant for political science, communications, or specific policy interests.
As described by State Rep. Craig Haggard (R-Mooresville), the intern’s day-to-day will involve clocking in full-time hours at the Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis. From Monday to Friday, interns' presence during the session, running from January through March, is nothing short of crucial. These budding professionals will shoulder the responsibility of working adjacent to both lawmakers and staff, witnessing the transformation of ideas into tangible policy.
"Interns are a crucial part of the legislative team," Haggard stated on the Indiana House Republicans, revealing the central role these individuals will play in legislative operations, policy development, and communications. State Rep. Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville) chimed in, illuminating the path interns will tread – pairing with staff members and steadfastly supporting an assigned group of state representatives.
