Following a weekend shooting incident on Indy's east side, the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force (ICGTF) detectives have made an arrest. In a social media post released by IMPD News, a 30-year-old suspect, Chavieon Gray, was taken into custody related to the incident that left an adult female with gunshot wounds.

According to the same post by IMPD News, during the early hours of Sunday, October 19, IMPD East District officers responded to the 2300 block of Lesley Avenue following reports of a person shot. The victim, an adult female found injured, was transported to a hospital and is reportedly in stable condition. After canvassing the area for witnesses, footage, and evidence, Gray emerged as a possible suspect in connection with the shooting, with detectives pinpointing his location on the subsequent Wednesday.

Detectives from the ICGTF, with assistance from the IMPD SWAT Unit, approached an apartment complex on the 100 block of Betsy Lane on Wednesday, October 22, around 5:30 p.m. The SWAT Unit secured an apartment believed to be harboring Gray and, with the use of a drone, observed him hiding inside a utility room. Eventually, Gray was safely detained by the officers on site. A search warrant executed on the premises resulted in the seizure of multiple firearms and additional evidence.

Presently, Gray is facing charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, resisting law enforcement, and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon (SVF). As stated in the IMPD News post, "An arrest and a charge are merely accusations, and Gray should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty." The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office is tasked with making the final decision regarding the charges. The details surrounding the case are ongoing, and updates are expected as the process unfolds.
