Amid the hum of engines and the rush of tires against pavement, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and Indiana State Police have issued a reminder to drivers: it's everyone's duty to give space to emergency responders and disabled vehicles on the road. Coinciding with National Move Over Day on October 18, the message from INDOT is clear — when you see those flashing lights on the highway's shoulder, it's time to move over or slow down, as communicated through their recent Indiana Department of Transportation Post.
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is reminding drivers to follow the “Move Over” law to keep roadside workers and stranded motorists safe. The agency advises motorists to change lanes when possible or slow down by at least 10 mph below the speed limit when passing emergency or maintenance vehicles. INDOT emphasizes that these precautions are essential to prevent accidents and protect those working on the roadside.
