The El Cajon community has been rocked by the recent development in the search for a hit-and-run driver who left a 12-year-old child with severe injuries. The child, who sustained major head trauma, remains in the hospital in stable condition after being found in critical condition on Ballantyne Street. According to an updated press release from the El Cajon Police Department, the vehicle involved in the October 22nd incident has been identified as a white BMW X5.
Following a rigorous investigation, which included gathering debris from the scene and referencing an Automated License Plate Reader database and other investigative tools, detectives located the suspect vehicle parked at a business in Lakeside, CA. The arrested suspect has been named as 35-year-old Dani Korkis of Lakeside, who is now facing felony hit-and-run charges. This breakthrough came partly due to the media's assistance in alerting the community to be on the lookout for the damaged vehicle, the police revealed in a statement on their website.
Witness reports initially described the offending vehicle as a white or silver SUV with noticeable front-end damage. This information was crucial to the early stages of the investigation, which was disseminated by local news outlets, including Hoodline, which first reported on the community's shock and the urgent search for the hit-and-run driver.
The El Cajon Police Department continues to request any additional information about the collision. The public is urged to call (619) 579-3311 to contribute to the investigation.
