A tragic incident occurred Wednesday afternoon in Grant County, resulting in the death of a Marion woman after a severe head-on collision. According to the Fox59 report, the crash took place near State Road 18 and State Road 13, in front of Oak Hill High School. Officials from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at approximately 4:14 p.m., where two vehicles, a 2014 BMW and a 2023 Chevrolet, were found to have collided.
Per the details from WANE, onlookers at the scene managed to pull one driver out of a burning car before first responders arrived. The victim received immediate medical attention, and was subsequently airlifted, with serious injuries, to a hospital in Fort Wayne. The other driver, trapped in her vehicle, was rescued by emergency services but sadly passed away after being taken to a local hospital; she was identified as Vicki Colley, a 45-year-old Marion resident.
Investigations into the crash revealed, that the westbound BMW veered across the central line, leading to the catastrophic collision with the Chevrolet. Statements obtained by Fox59 from witnesses indicated that the BMW was being driven "recklessly and erratically" before the accident. The investigation is ongoing as officials continue to review the circumstances that precipitated this unfortunate event.
Grant County Sheriff’s Office has not provided specific details regarding the conditions of both vehicles or their occupants following the incident. According to a WTHR coverage of the story, each driver was alone in their vehicle during the time of the collision.
