Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office is stepping up to address the recent surge in intersection takeovers throughout Miami-Dade County. Over the weekend, an enforcement initiative was launched targeting drivers who were engaging in these dangerous and unlawful activities. According to a press release from the county's website, the Homeland Security Bureau, Intelligence and Investigations Section, Priority Response Team, and North Operations Division uniform patrol worked jointly Saturday night into Sunday morning to quell this disruptive behavior.
In a single night, the operation managed to arrest three individuals, issue four citations, and impound one vehicle associated with the illegal events. The county has seen a notable increase in these takeovers, where drivers collaborate to suddenly and completely block traffic at intersections, often to perform stunts or drag race. Efforts have been ramped up to not only catch but also deter individuals from turning public streets into their personal race tracks.
The MDSO's crackdown bore fruit with the pinpointing of a hotspot for such activities, specifically 121 Court NW 22 Street in Sweetwater, Florida. Yesterday morning, local authorities intervened in what was described as a coordinated operation among drivers to impede traffic and carry out drag racing. This location and time appeared in the enforcement report as a central point for the night's efforts against such dangerous misconduct, according to a Miami-Dade County release.
The individuals arrested during the operation were identified as 20-year-old Jamil A. Segueira-Esquivel, 18-year-old Alex HernandezJimenez, and 19-year-old Joshua E. Cuevas-Gomez. Each was charged with charges related to drag racing and impeding traffic.
