An Ogden community is grappling with the aftermath of a violent episode that claimed the life of a local teenager, with law enforcement on the hunt for the suspect. An arrest warrant has been issued for Isaias Emanuel Carranza, identified as the alleged perpetrator of the murder of 16-year-old Mason Caballero, a student at Ben Lomond High School. According to KUTV, Carranza, who is not yet in custody, faces aggravated murder charges.
Evidence gathered in the investigation pointed to Carranza as the shooter, with surveillance footage capturing a man in a black sedan, leaning out to fire a handgun near the school. Furthermore, the car in question was traced back to Carranza. The cell phone data also placed him at the crime scene when the shooting occurred, and he is reported to have ties with the 18th Street gang, as obtained by KSLTV. Caballero was shot while sitting in the back seat of a vehicle amongst a group of people.
As detectives from the Major Crimes Division and the Weber-Morgan Homicide Task Force lead the investigation, local authorities are urging anyone with knowledge regarding Carranza's whereabouts to come forward immediately. The Ogden Police Department praised the community for its ongoing support and cooperation during this critical time. "The Ogden Police Department extends its sincere appreciation to the community for their continued support and cooperation as we work to bring this case to a resolution and ensure the safety of our residents," the Ogden Police stated, as per KUTV.
Meanwhile, the grief-stricken family of the victim is offering a $1,700 reward for tips that lead to the arrest of Carranza. Officials emphasize that Carranza should not be approached by the public, advising anyone who spots him to contact local law enforcement or Weber Dispatch at 801-395-8221 immediately. The statement echoes the sentiment from all sources, including KUTV, KSLTV, and ABC4, highlighting security as a priority while the suspect remains at large. At the time of reporting, no additional updates about Carranza's capture or further developments in the case are available.
