
A fatal collision on southbound I-65 in Tippecanoe County, involving a semitruck and an SUV, resulted in one fatality yesterday night. As reported by FOX59, the incident occurred near the Lafayette exit at mile marker 176.5, leading to the closure of all southbound lanes during the on-site investigation.
According to the WISH-TV report, the crash unfolded around 8 p.m. when a semitruck rear-ended a 2023 Audi SQ5. The Audi, which Indiana State Police believe to have been slowed or stopped in the lane at the time of the accident, and the semitruck, subsequently traveled off the road and down an embankment. Despite quick life-saving attempts, the Audi's driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office, and, their identity has yet to be publicly disclosed pending proper identification and family notification.
The semi's driver sustained minor injuries in the tragic event. WTHR reports that the Indiana State Police are currently heading an ongoing investigation to determine the precise circumstances leading up to the fatal crash. The southbound lanes, which had been shut down for forensic analysis, were reopened around 1:30 a.m. today.
