Heads up Carmel residents, Civic Square is getting a facelift, and it's all set to start next week. Per the City of Carmel's latest news release, shared on their bulletin, the north of Carmel City Hall will see some action with brick removal and repaving work beginning next Monday. This marks the last dance of upgrades within the Civic Square vicinity.
For those who like to stay ahead of traffic disruptions, the city map highlights the areas affected in eye-catching light blue shading - those will be blocked off to cars starting next Monday for a solid two days, weather permitting. And don't try slipping through on Veterans Way by the south parking lot City Hall way, because that's a no-go during this first phase. All this according to the City of Carmel's bulletin. However, traffic will keep flowing on the north side of the fountain, ensuring that not all roads lead to headaches.
Fast forward to next Wednesday, and the plot—and the traffic—thickens. The yellow shaded area, designated on the city's map, joins the party and shuts its gates to vehicles for another couple of days. But it's not all doom and gloom for drivers, as the traffic will be courteously shuffled over to the fountain's south side. And Veterans Way, like a beacon of hope, will stand open.
Finally, earmark October 24, on your calendars, because that's when the heart of Civic Square gets its rhythmic beating with milling and repaving. Since you probably have plans for the weekend, the city has thoughtfully scheduled milling of the parking lot for Friday and will finish off the paving on October 25. A noble attempt to disrupt our lives as little as possible while they pretty up the square. With all these changes, Carmel City Hall will definitely see some parking woes, but only briefly.
