Yesterday in the Linda Vista neighborhood of San Diego, a man was shot and killed, marking a sudden and violent interruption to what began as a peaceful night. The San Diego Police Department reported that at around 12:45 AM, officers were dispatched near the Linda Vista Recreation Center, located at 7064 Levant Street, following calls about gunshots.
The first responders found a man on the ground with a life-threatening gunshot wound, where they tried lifesaving measures until paramedics from San Diego Fire-Rescue could take over. These efforts weren't enough, and the victim later died at the hospital. The motive behind the shooting remains mysterious, but early information released by authorities indicates that the victim was approached in the park and shot by the suspect, who has been described as a heavyset Hispanic male adult.
The police have since identified the unfortunate man as 40-year-old Enrique Nunez, and the SDPD Homicide Unit is scrutinizing the case. While investigators are piecing together the events that led to Nunez's death, they are urging members of the community who might have seen something or have any information to step forward.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477, as stated in a press release sent out by the San Diego Police Department; according to a parallel report by Hoodline, the the victim's identity was withheld until his next of kin had been notified, confirming that the family has since been informed.
