Chaos unfolded on I-595 early this morning when a semi-truck, faced with slick road conditions, jackknifed and caused significant disruption to eastbound traffic just east of the Florida Turnpike. WSVN reported that the incident led to the spillage of gallons of gasoline from a ruptured fuel tank, although, fortunately, no other vehicles were caught up in the event, and there have been no injuries reported at this time.
The spill necessitated the closure of the two right lanes, and while the cleanup crews continue their work, motorists have been advised to seek alternative routes. A similar report from NBC Miami put the amount of spilled fuel at approximately 100 gallons, further detailing that the fuel had pooled mainly on the right shoulder of the interstate.
Authorities are handling the situation, with tow trucks and cleanup crews dispatched to the area. The Florida Highway Patrol has activated a long-term maintenance-of-traffic alert, indicating the seriousness of the disruption and the anticipated duration of the lane closures, although it remains uncertain how long the cleanup will take.
In the meantime, the blockage has also led to the closure of the exit ramp for State Road 84-Marina Mile Boulevard. "Tow trucks and cleanup crews are en route," authorities said in a bid to reassure the public that measures are being taken to restore normal traffic conditions as swiftly as possible. Motorists in the area should brace for potential delays and consider using detours to avoid the affected segment of I-595. These unfolding developments on the interstate are set to impact the morning commute, and travelers are advised to stay informed on the latest traffic updates, as reported by NBC Miami.
