The tragic unraveling of a family was brought further into the perspective with the latest developments in the Bellevue shooting case. According to a Nashville Police Department statement, 17-year-old Ja'Quan Nolan was fatally shot by his cousin, 19-year-old Marquez Reed, amidst an attempt to fire into an apartment at Forest Park Apartments on Highway 70 South. The unfortunate incident which took place on October 18 saw Reed firing multiple rounds, one of which fatally struck Nolan in the back of the head.
The probe into the shooting has led to the issuing of an arrest warrant for Reed, implicating him on charges of criminal homicide, felony reckless endangerment, and use of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony. According to a Nashville Police Department statement, Reed, who is already in custody in Rutherford County for unrelated auto burglary charges, will see additional processing in Nashville in the near future. Alongside him, Malichi Cummins, 21, and a 16-year-old have been charged for their roles in the shooting, facing attempted murder and felony reckless endangerment for their actions directed at the apartments housing an adult man, woman, and four small children.
The Nashville Police Department's investigation was supported by video evidence and witness statements, which identified Reed as the person accountable for the fatal shot. As the chaotic scene unfolded, Cummins was seen on video removing a gun from Nolan as the three fled the area. The adult male present on the apartment balcony sustained a graze wound to his chest in the altercation but was later released after treatment at a local hospital.
Both Reed and Cummins were apprehended following separate incidents in Rutherford County last Friday, with Cummins facing an additional theft charge. Their counterpart, the 16-year-old involved, has been booked into Nashville juvenile detention after being arrested in Montgomery County. In a distressing look at Reed's past encounters with the law, it was revealed that he had been arrested last September in Nashville on multiple charges, including auto theft, for which he was given a two-year probated sentence, with the remainder of the charges dismissed.
