Travelers on US 31 in Westfield, Indiana, faced significant delays following a serious crash that prompted a full closure of the northbound lanes just south of 191st St. The Westfield Police Department urged patience and avoidance of the area in a traffic alert issued at 9:45 pm, detailing the diversion route via SR 32, Wheeler Rd., and back to 191st St to re-enter US 31 N. The initial announcement was shared by the department's official social media outlets, intending to mitigate the disruptions caused by the incident.
Addressing the need for caution, Westfield Police relayed updates as the situation evolved, having allowed northbound traffic to trickle slowly through by using one of the shoulders at 10:30 pm. Drivers were, however, encouraged to drive with caution and keep expectation for potential delays. The traffic, having crawled at a snail's pace, bore the brunt of the disturbance while authorities performed their duties at the scene.
In the early hours, the Westfield Police Department informed the public of the conclusion of their on-site operations. The official communication came via a follow-up post at 1:00 am, stating, "All lanes are now back open." As a gesture of appreciation, the department extended their thanks to the community for the patience exhibited during the critical response period.
