A woman was found dead following a shooting on Indianapolis’ near northwest side last night. Police responded to reports of a shooting in the 1400 block of West 34th Street, a few blocks south of I-65, at around 11:42 p.m., according to FOX59. The woman had sustained a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the incident, officers pursued leads and, after a brief struggle, arrested 38-year-old Steven Baker Jr., who matched the description of the suspected shooter. Baker was charged with preliminary murder, and the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make a final decision on charges, as per WTHR. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased woman once her next of kin have been notified.
WTHR reports that investigators received information from individuals at the scene who provided a description of the shooter to IMPD officers. This information helped officers locate and arrest the suspect. Authorities are asking anyone with additional information to contact Det. Katie Gourley at the IMPD Homicide Office or to submit tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana.
