The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating an early morning incident that left one person dead and another critically injured following a vehicular crash on Indianapolis's east side, WTHR reported. Today, shortly after 4:30 a.m., authorities responded to the scene at the intersection of East 25th Street and North Sherman Drive.
The crash involved a single vehicle that collided with two poles, which led to the driver's death at the site, and caused serious injuries to the passenger who was subsequently transported, to an area hospital in critical condition, according to FOX59. The Indianapolis power utility, AES, was also present to address any electrical outages resulting from the incident.
Due to the ongoing investigation and the need for repairs, the intersection was closed, impacting traffic including the traffic light, as WRTV noted. Indianapolis police foreshadowed lengthy delays ahead for motorists accustomed to using this route.
