After a significant presence of a decade and a half on Mass Ave., the Mesh restaurant, known for its distinctive offer of brunch, lunch, and dinner, is set to close its doors come January. FOX59 reports that the Mesh establishment will cease operations on January 4, 2026, following an announcement by the Cunningham Restaurant Group, which operates the dining venue. The decision came as the property owner listed the building for sale, and subsequently, an agreement on a lease extension could not be established between the parties in question.
Mesh was one of the initial trailblazers in the now thriving arts and cultural district, setting a precedent for what would follow, as Cunningham Restaurant Group subsequently opened more than seven restaurants in downtown Indianapolis and expanded with a total of 45 establishments across Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio. Popular for its Amish Chicken, fried chicken & waffles, and scallops, the restaurant became a staple for those seeking quality American cuisine, as detailed by WTHR.
"Mesh was always intended to be a place where our neighbors could share meals and memories, and it’s been an incredible journey," Mike Cunningham, founder, and CEO of Cunningham Restaurant Group, expressed his thoughts on the upcoming closure. He then assured patrons that while one chapter might be ending with the closing of Mesh, their dedication to culinary service persists, hinting at future endeavors for CRG.
The Mesh establishment on Mass Ave. is not the only location operated by the group, as they also boast another location in Louisville, Kentucky, which is not affected by the impending closure, indicating that the Mesh brand will still maintain a physical presence despite the cessation of the Mass Ave. location, catering to its clientele with its popular menu options. While the community prepares to bid farewell to this culinary fixture that has drawn both crowds and critical acclaim, Cunningham declares, "We’re excited for what’s next for CRG,” as reported by both FOX59 and WTHR.
