Residents of Fort Wayne are invited to lace up their hiking boots and join the city's Greenways and Trails Department in celebrating National Take a Hike Day this coming Monday. The event, slated to begin at noon, will see participants gathering at the Pufferbelly Trailhead located at the Parkview Family YMCA. From there, the group will embark south on the Pufferbelly Trail for a peaceful 2-mile walk amongst the trees.
The initiative, according to the City of Fort Wayne's official announcement, seeks to remind citizens that hiking doesn't have to be a complicated endeavor; it can be an easily accessible form of respite from the complexities of daily life. The American Hiking Society established National Take a Hike Day back in 1976 with the intent to encourage people to connect more intimately with their natural surroundings. The City of Fort Wayne invites attendees to document their outdoor adventure by using the hashtag #NationalTakeAHikeDay on social media platforms.
The collaborative effort to bring this event to life involves various local partners. The Summit City Entrepreneur and Enterprise District (SEED), Indiana Donor Network, IU Health, and Linke Urology + Robotics are all sponsors that have come together to ensure that the community can engage and appreciate the beauty of the local trails.
Those interested in participating in the National Take a Hike Day event can find more information on the City of Fort Wayne website. The site provides details on the starting point, trail map, and how to best prepare for the hike.
