A wild chase unfolded yesterday morning when a Fort Wayne school bus led local police through the streets, ending in a standoff and the driver's eventual arrest. WTHR reported that the chase began around 10:55 a.m. after Fort Wayne police noticed a school bus tailgating their vehicle.
According to the police, the driver continued to press on even as the officers signaled with emergency lights to stop, and the pursuit did not end until the vehicle was cornered at the International Harvester lot, Fox59 noted amid the report of the standoff that concluded just before noon thankfully without casualties or injuries; it had become clear the white bus is typically used by Fort Wayne Community Schools for athletic events.
Additional details revealed by WISH-TV confirmed that no children were present on the bus during the incident, as ascertained by the FWPD Air Support Unit. It was not purely a ground effort, for the FWPD Emergency Services Team and the FWPD Crisis Response Team were required to respond, which led to the driver's arrest and his subsequent transport to a local hospital for a medical evaluation, casting doubts onto whether the driver's health might have instigated the aberrant behavior.
