Indiana communities seeking to support individuals recovering from substance use disorder received a funding update from State Rep. Cindy Ledbetter (R-Newburgh). The Indiana Recovery Housing Program is offering financial assistance, sourced from a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grant, to develop transitional living facilities. According to the announcement, communities can use these funds to establish new recovery residences or upgrade existing structures.
"This is a program that addresses one of the biggest chokepoints for sustained recovery from substance abuse," said Ledbetter, focusing on the crucial role stable housing plays in maintaining sobriety and promoting independence for those in the recovery process, communities are now able to submit proposals until Dec. 21 and must finalize applications by Feb. 22, 2026.
Distributed by the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs and the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration, the program has an allocated budget of nearly $5 million for the period 2020 to 2024. Access to these funds offers cities, towns, and counties a substantial resource to aid residents on their journey to recovery. For interested entities, the clock is ticking as the application window draws near its close, with the pre-proposal deadline on Dec. 21 and the final application cutoff on the horizon in early 2026.
