Hoosier women over the age of 25 who are hitting the books again have just gotten a leg up, courtesy of the Indiana Political Organization for Women's Education and Representation (POWER) Caucus. State Rep. Elizabeth Rowray, who hails from Yorktown, announced that applications are officially open for a scholarship meant to give adult women students a financial boost. The POWER Caucus, with a mission to amp up the quality of life for women and all citizens in Indiana, stands behind this initiative.
The $1,000 scholarship is geared towards those who've taken, let's say, the road less traveled in terms of their educational pursuits. Those returning to the classroom to chase an undergraduate or graduate degree can see this as a financial olive branch of sorts. Rowray, in a statement obtained by Indiana House Republicans, put it this way: "This scholarship is about honoring that determination and helping remove barriers that may stand in the way." She's banking on the scholarship to encourage more women to take a bet on their future.
Candidates have a small window to throw their hat in the ring, with the cutoff for applications on Friday. Hopefuls can find the application form on the official POWER Caucus website. Eligibility criteria is pretty straightforward – be 25 or older, and be attending or recently accepted to an Indiana college or university.
Rowray is a key player in the bipartisan caucus that's all about championing women's causes in the Hoosier State. Through this scholarship, the POWER Caucus reinforces its commitment to supporting non-traditional students, offering them a monetary pat on the back. Reflecting on the initiative, Rowray said, "I hope more women see this as their opportunity to take that next step and invest in their future."
