Dr. Frederica Wilson/Skyway Elementary School in Miami Gardens has begun a $34.1 million renovation. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on Friday last week, WSVN reports. The ceremony included Miami-Dade County Public Schools representatives, School Board members, Dr. Frederica Wilson, principal Tiffany C. James, staff, and students.
The project, contracted to H.A. Contracting Corp, will add modern art and music labs, administration offices, a media center, and updated STEM facilities for nearly 400 students.
The school will also become the district’s first Net Zero Energy school, featuring solar panels, high-performance building materials, water-conserving fixtures, energy-efficient HVAC systems, LED lighting, and electric cooking appliances. Additional upgrades include a renovated cafeteria, two new tennis courts, putting greens, and refreshed parking areas, according to PublicNow.
