A juvenile was killed and another is in critical condition following a shooting incident on Indianapolis’s north side yesterday afternoon. According to FOX59, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) authorities arrived on the scene after receiving reports of the shooting at around 3:13 p.m. in the 3800 block of Central Avenue.
The officers discovered two male juveniles near a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. They were subsequently transported to area hospitals in critical condition. Later statements from IMPD confirmed the severity of their injuries, with one victim succumbing to their wounds in the hospital, as mentioned in a report by WTHR. The other victim remains in a critical state and was initially not expected to survive.
In the course of the investigation, SWAT was called to the scene when a person of potential involvement in the shooting was located inside a residence. This individual, along with another person of interest, was detained after peacefully surrendering. As noted by IMPD Officer Drew Brown in a statement obtained by FOX59, "This is a senseless, senseless act of violence we find ourselves here time and time again," indicating the seemingly preventable nature of such tragic occurrences.
Furthermore, IMPD has called on the community for any information related to the incident, with Detective Matthew Melkey being the point of contact. Details can be forwarded to IMPD by phone or via email, as provided in the coverage by WISHTV.
The Marion County Coroner's Office is tasked with releasing the identity of the deceased juvenile after family members have been properly notified. IMPD is maintaining a dialogue with locals and pressing for any leads that could aid in shedding light on the events that resulted in this heartbreaking situation.
