A recent homicide investigation has gripped the City Heights neighborhood after a young woman was found dead at a local hotel. As detailed in a Hoodline report, San Diego Police Department officers responded to a call at the La Cresta Hotel on El Cajon Boulevard at approximately 9:54 PM on October 20. They discovered a 22-year-old woman unresponsive with signs of upper body trauma.
Investigators have since had to follow up on active leads. The victim, now identified as San Diego resident Amy Carreon, prompted the SDPD Homicide Detectives to take charge due to the suspicious nature of her injuries. An official press release from the San Diego Police Department shared that she had suffered upper body trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene, adding a somber note to the community fabric.
In a subsequent turn, authorities made a significant breakthrough in the case. Demaurya Wiggers, a 21-year-old black male, was arrested in Los Angeles yesterday and is currently facing murder charges in the death of Carreon. The San Diego Police Department transferred Wiggers to San Diego County Jail following his apprehension by the Los Angeles Police Department.
