
An incident in Lafayette has left one man dead after a police shooting early this morning, authorities said. The Lafayette Police Department stopped the man near South Street and Sagamore Parkway around 12:15 a.m., based on suspicion of impaired driving. According to FOX59, after initially fleeing the scene, the suspect was located an hour later at Waterford Court Apartments. The exchange culminated when the suspect, allegedly non-compliant and claiming to be armed, made a motion towards his waistband, prompting officers to shoot.
Despite attempts to provide medical aid, the man died at the site of the confrontation. WISH-TV reports that the Lafayette Police Department did not specify whether a firearm was recovered at the scene. The involved officers have, per standard protocol, been placed on administrative leave, and no others were harmed during the occurrence.
In a separate incident reported by KLFY, two individuals were arrested in connection with a midday shooting in Lafayette. Occurring on the 300 block of Chalmette Drive, the shooting resulted in a 37-year-old man being hospitalized and currently listed in stable condition. Seventeen-year-old Broderick Brown Jr. was charged with attempted second-degree murder, and Danvonrick Foster, 26, was charged as principal to second degree murder. The incident allegedly stemmed from a verbal dispute between the victim and Brown.
The police-involved shooting investigation is jointly conducted by the Lafayette Police Department and Indiana State Police. While details remain limited, the public has been urged to come forward with any information relating to either case.
