While others were enjoying Thanksgiving dinner, a Utah family had an extraordinary experience as they welcomed a new baby girl into the world on the side of Interstate 15. According to KUTV, the parents-to-be were en route to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray when they realized the baby was not going to wait. After pulling over on the off-ramp of 5300 South, the mother gave birth less than a mile from the hospital.
Utah Highway Patrol Corporal Chaseton Stevens arrived shortly after the birth and shared, "We showed up, and mom was having a baby." He expressed his enthusiasm for such calls, stating to KUTV, "This is like the top. Yeah, this is exciting." The baby girl was reported to be healthy, and both mother and child were transported to the hospital for further care.
The event caused temporary road closures due to the medical incident, as confirmed by the Utah Department of Transportation. ABC4 reported that both the right lane and shoulder on the exit ramp were blocked. However, the road was cleared shortly after the baby was born, and the mother and newborn were taken to the hospital.
