A shooting yesterday on Indianapolis' east side has left a woman dead. FOX59 reports that the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) responded to the 4000 block of East 10th Street initially for a report of a personal injury accident shortly before 11 p.m. On their way, officers were updated that a shooting had occurred.
Upon arrival, they found an adult female with gunshot wounds. Having died after being taken to the hospital in a critical condition, her struggle for survival came to an end, the cause of her death boiling down to the bullet wound declared by medical professionals. Echoing WTHR, it is believed that an incident involving multiple individuals in a nearby parking lot is related to the subsequent two-car crash.
IMPD detectives are in the process of collecting accounts from witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage to reconstruct the evening's events, as reported by WISH-TV. IMPD Capt. Rob Rider expressed the gravity of the situation, stating, "A life was lost and that's tragic. Any time a life is lost is tragic, but what makes it even worse is that decisions could’ve been made here tonight to avoid that."
Authorities have detained a person of interest regarding the incident. However, a motive is yet to be ascertained, and formal arrests hang in the uncertainty of ongoing investigations.
