The student now faces a preliminary charge of possession of a firearm on school property, a Level 6 felony in Indiana with penalties that could include up to 2.5 years in prison and fines reaching $10,000, reported WTHR. Despite the severity of the charge, authorities stated, "We do not believe the juvenile intended to use the weapon to cause harm at the school."
