A severe vehicle accident on Lake Avenue near Reed Road is currently under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department. The crash, which took place early in the morning, resulted in life-threatening injuries for the male driver, who was ejected from his vehicle upon impact with a utility pole. The Fort Wayne Police Department has disclosed that at around 8:42 a.m., officers were dispatched to the scene where they encountered the extensively damaged vehicle and the impacted utility pole, as stated in a report from the City of Fort Wayne.
The initial findings suggest that the driver was attempting to bypass stalled traffic by using the center turn lane and after passing Reed Road, proceeded to rapidly accelerate, only to subsequently lose control and collide into the utility pole situated on the north side of Lake Avenue, east of Reed Road. This information comes from the same report provided by the City of Fort Wayne which further indicates the serious nature of the driver's injuries.
Focusing on the circumstances of the crash, the Fort Wayne Police Department's Fatal Crash Team is spearheading the investigation with assistance from the Air Support Unit, which is documenting the scene from an aerial perspective. The investigation has warranted the closure of Lake Avenue east of Reed Road, with no additional information currently available. This information was provided by Det. Gregory Addison, the Public Information Officer for the Fort Wayne Police Department, as noted in the city's report.
Det. Addison has urged the public to seek alternative routes as the closure is set to continue until the investigation concludes. He emphasized the importance of road safety and the impact such incidents have on the community. "The male driver was ejected from the vehicle as a result of the crash," detailed Det. Addison in a statement on the City of Fort Wayne website.
