Fort Wayne has been grappling with the aftermath of a violent shooting that unfolded on December 4, which left multiple victims seriously wounded. The police responded to an emergency call in the 6700 block of S. Lafayette St where they found the injured parties and rushed them to local trauma centers with various degrees of injuries. Some were fighting for their lives, while others sustained less critical wounds.
After a meticulous investigation led by Homicide Detectives, a suspect by the name of Tristan Pernell, a 24-year-old, was apprehended in connection with the incident. Pernell now faces several serious charges, including Attempted Murder and Aggravated Battery among others. According to a release from the City of Fort Wayne, the suspect was arrested on December 8 and has been preliminarily charged with Attempted Murder, Aggravated Battery, Battery with a Deadly Weapon, and Criminal Recklessness Shooting a Firearm into a Gathering.
Residents and the broader Fort Wayne community are likely to follow the legal proceedings closely, as the trial of Pernell could bring some kind of closure to a scarred community.
