As the year winds down, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) has been taking a moment to consider the strides they've made in criminal investigations throughout 2025. Notable achievements have been posted, by way of a social media update, accentuating both the commitment and success of IMPD's Criminal Investigations Division (CID) in tackling and resolving criminal cases. Their efforts have led to significant clearance rates and a decrease in non-fatal shootings compared to the previous year.
According to the post from the IMPD's official update, the CID boasts a 47% clearance rate for 2025's criminal homicides, along with a substantial cumulative clearance rate exceeding 80% from past cases. These statistics represent a tangible crackdown on violent offenders. Additionally, they have notched a 31% clearance rate for non-fatal shootings, with nearly 100 fewer victims than the year prior. Despite these notable figures, the department underscores the intrinsic value beyond the cold hard numbers: safer streets,, and some measure of closure for those affected by violent crime.
IMPD's Unsolved Homicide Unit also demonstrated strong outcomes this year. According to their statement, the Unit managed to push through seven jury trials, leading to the closure of eight cases involving 11 victims, some dated back to the 1990s. This relentless pursuit of justice, spanning decades, has given many long-waiting families the answers they’ve desperately sought. Furthermore, the IMPD's Victims’ Assistance Unit has helped connect nearly 3,500 crime victims to essential services and support, underlining the department's holistic approach to handling the aftermath of crime.
The role of community involvement can not be overstated. IMPD reportedly received almost 7,000 crime stopper tips which directly resulted in close to 150 arrests, and engaged 30k in reward payouts to sources. While these actions paint a picture of effectiveness and diligence from the CID, the Department insists, "nothing is more powerful than community cooperation and the relentless skill of our detectives." IMPD vows to continue leveraging every available tool to investigate and solve crimes across Indianapolis.
