On Christmas Day, the National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for central, east central, north central, and west central Indiana. The advisory is in effect until 11 a.m. EST, warning of visibility of a quarter mile or less in dense fog. Drivers are advised to slow down, use headlights, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
The fog comes with rain and cloudy skies, with highs around 54°F on Christmas Day. It is expected to clear gradually, with morning driving conditions potentially affected. Winds, calm at first, are forecast to shift east-northeast at 5 to 7 mph later, helping the fog to clear.
Looking ahead, rain is forecast to begin after 2 a.m. tonight, with a 40 percent chance of precipitation. Patchy fog is also expected after 2 a.m. As the weekend approaches, skies are likely to remain mostly cloudy, with a higher chance of rain and possible thunderstorms on Sunday, with a high near 65°F.
At the start of next week, the NWS forecasts a change from rain to snow Sunday night. Monday is expected to see a high near 29°F, with wind gusts up to 31 mph. Currently, the National Weather Service does not forecast any hazardous weather beyond Sunday night. No spotter activation has been issued.
