Today, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a shooting on the city’s far east side that left one man in critical condition. Officers were dispatched around 2:39 a.m. to the 2700 block of Pointe Harbour Drive, a residential area near East 30th Street and North German Church Road. Upon arrival, officers found a man inside a home with gunshot wounds, according to FOX 59.
The man was quickly transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital for treatment. Earlier, authorities had received reports of suspicious individuals attempting to break into vehicles in the same area. IMPD Capt. Don Weilhammer told FOX59 that the Lawrence Police Department had pursued those individuals, though it is unclear if that incident is connected to the shooting.
The Lawrence Police Department’s pursuit occurred around the same time as the shooting, prompting authorities to investigate a possible connection. Police retained a vehicle involved in the pursuit that was later confirmed stolen, suggesting a potential link between the vehicle crime and the shooting. Capt. Don Weilhammer discussed the situation in an interview with WTHR, noting that the timing of the events appeared more than coincidental.
The IMPD has not released details about what led to the shooting or information about a possible suspect. Detectives are canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and relevant footage to assist in the investigation.
