Residents of Miami, FL, are experiencing an unexpected warmth this December, with temperatures soaring close to record highs. According to the detailed weather forecast by the National Weather Service, today's high is partly sunny, reaching around 85 degrees Fahrenheit with a southwest wind transitioning to west in the afternoon. These conditions persist amid a high humidity level of 94%, presenting an unseasonably muggy day for the region.
Meanwhile, NBC Miami's weather forecast predicts highs will push into the mid-80s with "feels-like" numbers above 90 degrees. They note, "We are currently forecasting 86 for Miami, where the current record is 87," indicating a brush with potential record-setting temperatures. The high humidity and southwest winds are to blame for the almost summer-time atmosphere enveloping South Florida.
However, this burst of heat in Miami shouldn't overstay its welcome. A front is expected to push across the state by Friday, ushering in a cooler weekend with highs around 80 degrees and reduced humidity. As per the outlook from the National Weather Service, the evening cool-down will begin tonight, with partly cloudy skies and a low around 69 degrees, followed by a mostly sunny Saturday with a high near 81 degrees and increased breeziness on Monday.
NBC Miami adds context to the weekend relief saying that although the temperatures are set to drop, "Technically these numbers are still a touch above average for this time of the year." Locals looking forward to more traditional December weather can expect "partly cloudy, lower humidity" on Saturday and "partly cloudy and breezy" conditions by Monday, offering some respite from today’s unusual heat.
