The grim aftermath of a domestic altercation turned fatal has left an Oakland Park community grappling with loss. Local 10 reported that the Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies have taken 37-year-old Mario Alejandro Ramirez into custody after a pregnant woman was tragically stabbed to death in an apartment complex earlier this week. The incident occurred around 12:55 a.m. on Tuesday at a residence located at the 100 block of Northeast 41st Street.
While trying to restrain Ramirez, deputies encountered resistance and worked to stop his bleeding from what appeared to be a self-inflicted wound before Oakland Park Fire Rescue personnel declared the woman deceased. Subsequently, Ramirez was transported to Broward Health Medical Center. He is currently facing one count of murder described as dangerous and depraved, without premeditation, according to BrowardFLMugshots, with his bail set at $0.00, and he remains at the Broward Main Jail.
Neighbors have sketched a portrait of anguish as they recalled the sequence of events leading up to the tragedy. "It sounded like furniture, like hitting, and there was a lot of screaming," one neighbor painted the auditory backdrop of domestic violence issues that seemingly emanated from the couple's apartment, as told to Local 10 on Tuesday.
The identity of the woman has not been officially released. In covering the body at the scene, authorities used a blue plastic tarp, underscoring the raw and very real human toll of the event. As of now, the BSO has not confirmed the relationship between Ramirez and the victim nor a history of domestic disputes between them.
