The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced a schedule for overnight lane closures on I-70 in Hancock County to facilitate the removal of a barrier wall. This work is a signal that the region is shifting into its winter traffic configurations. Drivers should note that the left lane of the I-70 westbound will be inaccessible between County Road 600 E. and State Road 9 at specific times across several days, provided the weather conditions don't shift the timetable.
According to an official release, the schedule for the closures is as follows: beginning today from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m., and continuing at varying nightly hours until next Saturday. The specific times vary, with closures starting at 8 p.m. to 10 a.m. tomorrow and then from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., next Monday through Thursday. The last round of closures is set for next Friday, from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m., and next Saturday from 8 p.m. to 10 a.m.
INDOT cautions motorists to anticipate slower traffic and to be vigilant of the changes when driving in this area. They have been reminded to prioritize safety by reducing speed, sidelining distractions, and being extra cautious while navigating through these work zones. Road maintenance and safety enhancements, they can be a source of frustration for regular commuters. Still, the state agency assures the public that these closures are a necessary step towards ensuring safer travel during the colder months. Any updates or changes in the schedule, as a result of unpredictable weather conditions, will be communicated to the public in a timely manner/
