The San Francisco District Attorney's Office has now charged 49-year-old Derral Robi with murder, among other charges, in connection with the fatal shooting that occurred on Sunday. The District Attorney’s announcement states that Robi is also facing two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of an assault weapon, possession of a firearm with a prior conviction, and possession of ammunition. His arraignment is set for December 8.
The man's identity has not yet been disclosed. However, authorities arrived on the scene at roughly 12:15 AM, after SFPD officers found the victim face down at the intersection of Sixth and Natoma. According to court documents, surveillance footage captured the chilling moment Robi allegedly pulled a firearm, sending the victim fleeing. After a subsequent fall and attempt to rise, the victim was allegedly shot multiple times by Robi. The area, located near Civic Center Station and City Hall, is not typically known for such incidents of violence. However, the proximity to these landmarks opens a window onto the grim realities that persist in the shadows of even the city's most prominent areas.
Despite the medical assistance provided on site, his injuries proved fatal. The case has been classified as a homicide, and the Search for answers pushes forward, as the SFGATE via Hoodline reports that the SFPD Homicide Detail is leading the investigation. Details of the shooting have caused a stir in local online communities, with residents taking to neighborhood forums and Reddit to discuss the sound of gunshots and the subsequent heavy police presence.
Authorities are seeking public assistance in the ongoing investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to come forward. The SFPD has circulated their tip line number, (415) 575-4444, and emphasized that texts can be sent to TIP411, beginning with "SFPD".
