Sonic the Hedgehog’s Speed Cafe is racing into Wicker Park with a limited-time pop-up opening Saturday, Dec. 20. The immersive installation is set to bring Sonic-themed food, locally made merch and a fresh mural from a Chicago artist, all in a brief, ticketless takeover of a neighborhood storefront.
In a press release reported by GoNintendo, SEGA and restaurateur Andy Nguyen of The Lunchbox Group LLC confirmed the Wicker Park spot will be the Speed Cafe’s sixth pop-up nationwide and its first Illinois location. Chicago’s menu was crafted by local chef David Choi and sticks close to the franchise playbook, with Sonic’s Turbo Chili Dog, a spicy Knuckles fried-chicken sandwich, and Knuckles’ Smash Fries, plus desserts like the Scoop-de-Loop ice cream sandwich. The space will also feature a custom mural by Chicago artist Luis De Guzman and Chicago-exclusive merchandise in custom-designed packaging.
