A fatal incident occurred yesterday after a sequence of events that began at the Comfort Inn on Mahogany Way in Antioch. The Antioch Police Department has reported via their press release that a 47-year-old male suspect, who had earlier triggered a fire alarm and assaulted a security guard at the hotel, was struck and killed on Highway 4 near Somersville Road by an on-duty Contra Costa County District Attorney investigator.

Officers from the Antioch Police Department were called to the scene at the Comfort Inn at 10:33 AM, where the security personnel attempted to pursue the suspect. The suspect, in what appears to be an attempt to evade capture, reportedly jumped over a fence directly onto the freeway. The California Highway Patrol is now actively involved in the investigation, alongside other law enforcement agencies.

The responding officer, who was on the way to address the incident, had emergency lights activated. However, the Antioch Police clarifies that their officers were not in a foot pursuit when the suspect entered the freeway and was fatally struck.

The identity of the deceased has not been released pending the investigation, which is being conducted jointly by the Antioch Police Department, the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office, and the California Highway Patrol. Detective Robert Ibanez with the Antioch Police is leading the inquiry. Those with information are encouraged to contact the detective directly at (925) 481-8398 or via email at [email protected].
