Wanatah in LaPorte County received $153,236 for local road and bridge improvements through Indiana’s Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, which has funded such projects since 2016, according to State Rep. Jim Pressel.

According to the Indiana House Republicans, nearly 200 communities, including Wanatah, will receive grants for infrastructure improvements. Pressel, chair of the House Roads and Transportation Committee, said, "Indiana values its high-ranking infrastructure and works hard to maintain and improve it." The grants support local projects and prioritize road safety.

The program requires small municipalities to contribute 20% and larger ones 50% to receive funds. At least half of the annual grants go to counties with 50,000 residents or fewer. Since its inception, the program has invested over $2 billion in local infrastructure.
