"🚗 ❄️ Don’t Let Your Warming Car Be a Gift for a Thief 🎁," it begins, before spelling out the risk. "Cold mornings can make it tempting to start your vehicle and head back inside — but leaving a car unattended, even for a short time, can make it an easy target for thieves," the department stated.
In an effort to stave off such potential thefts, Westfield Police offer straightforward advice. If one must warm up their vehicle, the department recommends staying with it, locking it, or using a remote start if available.
