A 23-year-old man was found shot to death early Saturday on Chicago's North Side, in a killing that unfolded along a busy stretch of Sheridan Road, police said. Officers responded to the 5100 block of North Sheridan Road around 4 a.m., where they found the victim and pronounced him dead at the scene. Chicago police said the man has not yet been identified, and no one is in custody.
Gunshot Wound To The Head
According to FOX 32 Chicago, officers discovered the man outside with a gunshot wound to the head. Area Three detectives have taken over the case and have not released any information about possible suspects or a motive.
Witness Reports Getaway Vehicle
A witness told police they saw a vehicle fleeing the scene, ABC7 Chicago reported. CBS Chicago added that the shooting happened outside a McDonald's and that video from the scene showed more than 60 evidence markers scattered across the pavement.
Part Of A Sheridan Road Shooting Pattern
The killing adds to a string of overnight shootings along the Sheridan Road corridor this year, an increasingly familiar headache for neighbors and police alike. Coverage of a fatal April shooting in the 6000 block of North Sheridan described a similarly heavy police response. Local outlets such as CWB Chicago have tracked multiple Edgewater incidents and noted the neighborhood's relatively high number of late-night shootings this year.
Detectives Seek Tips
Area Three detectives are investigating and are asking anyone with information to contact the Chicago police, CBS Chicago reported. Detectives continued to canvass the block and review camera footage as the probe remained active.
