A 40-year-old man was shot and killed early Sunday inside a home in the North Lawndale neighborhood on Chicago's West Side, authorities said. Officers responded to the 1800 block of South Springfield Avenue at about 4:45 a.m. and found the man with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and later pronounced dead.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, police said the shooter was at the home's rear doorway and fired multiple times. The paper reports that no arrests had been made in the case as of Sunday morning.
Violence on the West Side
The killing comes amid several recent violent incidents in North Lawndale. Earlier this month, NBC Chicago reported that three people were seriously wounded in a shooting in the neighborhood. The latest overnight killing underscores the persistence of late-night gunfire in the area and the ongoing strain on residents and first responders.
Investigation Under Way
Chicago police told the Chicago Sun-Times that detectives are investigating and that the department had not released the victim's name as of Sunday morning. Authorities urged anyone with information to come forward as the inquiry continues.
