The residents of Bloomington are encountering a setback in city services due to an unforgiving winter. The City of Bloomington has announced a delay in sanitation services starting today attributing the pause to the continued assaults of winter weather event "Fern." According to a city notice, substantial snowfall and sub-zero windchill temperatures are making travel conditions increasingly perilous, which prevents Sanitation crews from carrying out their duties safely and efficiently.
Bloomington’s Public Works crews have been working through the weekend, but worsening weather has paused sanitation services. If conditions persist, residents may go a week without trash pickup.
The city advises Bloomington residents to keep waste carts off the streets and not add extra materials until further notice. This helps ensure safety and allows crews to focus on critical winter responses.
The city thanked residents for their patience as crews focus on safety and critical winter response efforts. "The City appreciates residents’ patience as crews prioritize safety and critical winter response efforts," the City of Bloomington statement read. Officials promise to provide updates on sanitation services as conditions change.
