A Chula Vista community is dealing with the consequences of a fatal hit-and-run incident. The Chula Vista Police Department has reported that on Sunday, near the intersection of North Greensview Drive and Park Meadows Road, a vehicle struck an elderly woman around 5:27 PM. First responders arrived at the scene to find the woman with severe injuries. Despite life-saving attempts, the Asian woman, in her 70s, was later confirmed dead at the hospital, as put forth by a Hoodline article.
The victim has since been identified as Ruizhi You, a 70-year-old resident of Chula Vista. In a recent development, Chula Vista Police Department investigators announced the arrest of 46-year-old Chula Vista woman, Monica Armenta, for her alleged involvement in the incident. According to the Chula Vista Police Department, with limited initial leads, officers and detectives worked diligently, canvassing and interviewing local residents in search of both witnesses and video evidence.
Using information partly gleaned from a Flock Safety automated license plate reader (ALPR) system, detectives zeroed in on the suspected vehicle, which was registered to Monica Armenta. She was arrested at her home and is believed to have been the driver who fled the scene. Armenta now faces felony hit-and-run and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charges.
