The Chula Vista Police Department is actively seeking information related to the recent shooting death of 31-year-old Pablo Hernandez, Jr. near a local bar. According to a press release from Hoodline, the fatal incident took place last Sunday at approximately 1:40 AM at 656 E Street, where Hernandez suffered critical gunshot wounds.
In a swift response to a 9-1-1 call, officers discovered Hernandez and promptly attempted life-saving measures before his transport to a hospital. Despite these efforts, Hernandez passed away last Thursday, transforming the investigative category from attempted homicide to a full-scale homicide inquiry. The Chula Vista Police Department has since reiterated their appeal for witnesses who might have seen the shooting or the preceding events to come forward with any pertinent details.
Investigators have identified a suspect in connection with the homicide. 47-year-old Roberto Jacinto Diego of Chula Vista is believed to have fled the scene in a vehicle after the shooting. A press release issued by the Chula Vista Police Department specified that "after interviewing numerous witnesses and reviewing available video evidence, investigators developed suspect information and a potential vehicle license plate."
The use of the Flock Safety automated license plate reader (ALPR) system facilitated the location of the vehicle and the affirmation of Jacinto Diego’s identity. Authorities now believe that Jacinto Diego might have crossed the Mexican border, and they are coordinating efforts to locate and apprehend him. San Diego County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to his arrest and urges anyone with knowledge regarding Jacinto Diego’s whereabouts or this homicide to contact them via their hotline or online platforms.
