The City of Cookeville is officially calling for bids on the Henley Drive Roadway Extension project. Announced earlier this month, interested contractors have until 10:00 am local time on Thursday, January 29th, to submit their sealed bids to the Cookeville Public Works Department.
The extension plans for Henley Drive, as mentioned on the City's website, encompass approximately 0.13 miles stretching from Sams Street to Bunker Hill Road, designed to feature three 11-foot lanes, complete with base and paving. Bidders will need to lay out their groundwork to construct this as well as sidewalks, install storm sewers, and execute the requisite soil and seeding tasks. With a non-refundable charge of $200 for each contract document set, contractors can retrieve the necessary paperwork from the Public Works & Engineering department located at 1115 East Spring Street in Cookeille.
Not just any contractor can throw their hardhat into the ring, though; the City requires a Tennessee state contractor's license compliant with the stipulations outlined in Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 62, Chapter 6. Following the local code, each bid must be accompanied by documentation such as the contractor’s license number, expiration date of the license, and the related classification for the bid. If a joint venture is bidding, this information is required from all participating entities.
Beneath the technicalities and paperwork, there is a financial binding for prospective bidders. Enveloped with their bid, a cashier's or bank check or a Bid Guarantee Bond, amounting to at least five percent of the bid, will be securing the intent of the contractors. Successful bidders, as determined by the Owner based on a series of evaluations, will then be mandated to provide Performance and Payment Bonds amounting to one hundred percent of the agreed contract price.
