Incidents of domestic violence, as unforgivably prevalent as they are, have again made headlines involving a former professional athlete. This week, ex-UFC heavyweight fighter Jairzinho Rozenstruik was taken into custody in South Florida, facing some grave accusations. According to reports from an arrest by the Pembroke Pines Police, Rozenstruik has been arrested on charges including battery and false imprisonment.
The altercation leading to his arrest occurred Monday, when Rozenstruik allegedly became violent during an argument with the victim, who NBC Miami reports to be his wife. Details provided by the police suggest that the argument escalated to physical violence, with Rozenstruik accused of hitting and even biting the victim. Initially, Rozenstruik is said to have slapped her hand multiple times, leading to her dropping her phone.
Furthermore, the confrontation continued as the victim attempted to leave their vehicle. It was then that Rozenstruik allegedly restrained her, preventing the escape. Local 10 shared the victim's account, noting that Rozenstruik, in a later part of the incident, tried to kiss her and upon being declined, bit her on the right bicep. Police documentation of the victim's injuries included a visible bite mark on her bicep, redness on both forearms, and a red scratch/bruise mark under her right eye.
As this narrative unfolded, Rozenstruik showed a lack of cooperation with law enforcement. He first made "vague allegations" about his wife pushing him, directing officers to figure it out themselves without his help. The victim, having initially left the scene, later returned to the apartment building where she detailed the contentious events to the officers. She explained that after calling Rozenstruik a “nasty beast” and refusing his kiss, she was bitten. According to the report on Local10, Rozenstruik believed his wife punched him because he was "aggressively getting in her face during the argument."
Currently, the Surinamese national remains in custody at the Broward County Main Jail, also placed on an immigration hold. Rozenstruik's name was once known for his prowess in the heavyweight division of the UFC and as the current Dirty Boxing Heavyweight champion.
